Lin Fofana has claimed that England goalkeeper Joe Hart is not good enough for his English club, Manchester City, who are currently in the UEFA Champions League.

The Uruguay international striker scored just one Premier League goal in last season, and the 28-year-old is hopeful of playing Champions League football once again.

“He’s a goalkeeper,” he said of Hart. “He’s not good enough for Man City. I hope in the future, because it’s good for my game and for the other teams who want to play against us; I hope that the Premier League will give him some chances.”

Fofana recently signed a new deal with Atletico Madrid for an annual salary of almost £150,000 after scoring 44 goals in 98 appearances for the club in all competitions in his two seasons. He has also played in the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup.

“I want to stay and play with Atleti; I’ve been there three seasons, they don’t just let the best players go,” he says. “I’m going to try my best.”

This is Fofana’s fourth Champions League appearance for Atleti, and he has never suffered a drop in form.

“I am happy because I’ve played for this club three years,” he says. “Of course, not everybody is doing well and it takes time, but I am happy for that.”

Atletico coach Diego Simeone has a long-standing relationship with Fofana, dating back to their time at the Estadio Carlos Almagro, and has used him as a central striker in some games before.

He says he is a good striker but he knows his best position is as a striker, and admits he could still make a comeback.

“One day,” he says. “Let’s see what happens. If I can stay here for two years, I’m going to try (to make a comeback).

“Obviously, I would probably have the chance to start, if not to play then to have assists. I hope I would make this step, and maybe do a good job in the Copa del Rey or some other competitions.”
